Camera

Camera

Designed at Sony Ericsson in 2010

I have created several camera designs including this one for Sony Ericsson’s X10 mini. This design was started from scratch and I removed all clutter and chrome to create a clean and easy to use UI. The device itself was truly tiny which is something I optimised for by utilising the corners of the screen.

My role

Design

Sony and Sony Ericsson has always been very strong with their camera. I was responsible for all camera designs for more than a year and I created many designs for both touch and highlight driven products. In the design for the X10 mini I went back to basics and removed all clutter and settings and ended up with a clean and intuitive design that scored flawlessly in our usability studies.

Deliverables

My camera designs have been implemented into several products including the X10 mini Aino and Elm and is consequently used by millions of people every day. One of the most interesting part of designing the camera experience is the large dependencies on the hardware. This means that the camera application is normally the last component to get fully implemented in a product which increases the pressure on everybody involved.

Sony Ericsson has used its corner-based UI extremely well, […] making it extremely easy to fiddle with settings on the fly
