Press note

Designed at Samsung in 2012

I was responsible for the design of the journalist application called Press Note which was a line up project for the London Olympics. I was living in Seoul for 3 months and collaborated with developers and other stakeholders. The final solution was demonstrated during the Olympics.

My role

Ideation hosting • Wire-frames • UI specification
• Training of demonstration personnel • Demonstration poster

The team

Me as design lead • Team of engineers • User researcher agency • Visual designer

Research

For this project we collaborated with an agency on the research phase. Eight interviews were conducted with professional and hobby journalists, to identify latent needs and current pain points that journalists experience in their professional activities, and possible solutions which could be afforded by the Galaxy Note.

Ideation

I was responsible for the ideation in this project and hosted a number of workshops to generate ideas. I often start my ideation workshops with a physical game as studies has shown that this helps to increase the number of ideas generated in a session. In one workshop we were also using personas from Winnie-the-Pooh as inspiration.

Design

The press note application is largely an adaptation of Samsung’s S Note application but in order to make it work perfectly for journalist some major additions had to be added. I also had to coordinate between different agencies as implementation was done by two separate companies.

Deliverables

The solution was presented to the world at Samsung’s Media Lounge inside the Olympic park in London. I had designed a large poster that was on display next to the demonstration stations. I had also trained a team of presenters so that they could do the demonstration and answer any questions from the public.
